A certain colleague of mine went through a dramatic and mind wrecking incident last year. It was her mother�s birthday in a fortnight and she was still deciding on a gift. She scoured the malls� gift shops but it was all in vain. As she dragged herself home, she spotted a small designer store at the end of a street. It would be her last resort and hope rekindled her heart when she sighted a heart shaped box containing the most expensive imported perfume on display. It was just the thing she was looking for. She knew how her mother loved new exotic finds. She parted with almost three hundred quid and the glamorous fragrant was hers. Two days later she swore that she'll never set foot in the shop again as her mother after putting on the perfume to attend a dinner party, was hospitalized for developing allergic reaction on the face and neck due to one of the rare chemicals in the perfume. Fortunately her mother recovered after a few days but my poor friend never really did. Little did she know that a homemade family movie she had given her mother almost five years ago was still cherished by both her parents until this very day.

Sad incidents like this does not only cause you your money but the faith others have in you. Imagine if it was to happen to a mother-in-law!

"Deck the halls with boughs of holly". It was Christmas time again! Excuse me if I don't jump up and down teeming with excitement. After a couple more erroneous gifts I was up to my neck in frustration. Fate decided to play a nasty trick on me and I found myself standing the midst of the festive season clutter, with a winding list of people who were expecting me to add to their share of festive cheer. Initially I stood there dumbfounded, looking a little nostalgic; I wanted to go home! I fought the feeling to run impulsively to the bus stop and board the 66 instead I put on a brave front and went Christmas shopping. Beneath the facade I was slowly but surely losing it as I was not amused by the gifts that were on offer until I got into this specific department store. It was gift baskets galore! I had died and gone to heaven. There was a range of delightful playthings for toddlers; cuddly and fluffy teddies and tones of dolls. Apart from the latter, there was also gift baskets of clothing, jewelry, exotic perfumes and plenty other miscellaneous items. I confidently looked at my list, slid on a beaming smile and gave this whole shopping thing a try. That Christmas I was a mess! Everybody adored their presents and I was deemed queen of gifts. I am not one to sound my own trumpet but I was indeed quite a professional at picking out gifts!

I was saved once again by putting a little bit effort and of course imagination into the creation. There was no way I would go back to the horror of shopping to find cheap items to put into Christmas stockings or birthdays, for now I have my magic wand.
