Close Encounters With Aliens

Belief in extraterrestrial life seems to have been present in ancient Babylon, Egypt and Sumer. It is worth noting that these people viewed cosmology as supernatural and as such, the concept of aliens was very similar to gods, demons and these types of supernatural characters.

In Ancient Jewish texts such as the Talmud, it is suggested that there are 18,000 other worlds. The book Sefer Habrit states that extraterrestrial creatures exist but have no free will. When Christianity spread throughout the West the Ptolemaic system became dogma and the idea of alien life became heretical.

Many modern writers believe that Jesus, Muhammad, Krishna and other historical religious leaders were describing their own personal mystical experiences, or ‘out of body’ experiences to other worlds and visits with being s from these realms. The term ‘out of body’ would have been ‘in the Spirit’ back in biblical times. And angels are, naturally, equivalent to alien life forms.

What’s interesting is that alien encounters and out of body experiences all have aspects in common. This is not to say that these out of body experiences or alien abductions take place only in the experiencer’s imagination, but that they do take place on a more metal plane than what daily physical existence is usually comprised of.

What if aliens are us? This idea has been posed in even classic sci-fi with plots like aliens encounters are meetings with future humans that have evolved to look very different and have advanced skills in various areas of technology and/or mind and mental pursuits, depending on the story or movie.

Diving deeper into the idea that alien encounters are meetings with ourselves, there is the idea that we are spiritual and/or mental creatures that are as multi-faceted as the universe itself and reside in various frequencies of the universe though we may not be aware of it yet. It could be that encounters with aliens are simply communication with new levels of awareness. As with any discovery of an unknown perspective, it appears first more symbolically; in this case as an encounter with ‘other’ beings that seem to know very much about us.

Grant Morrison gave an excellent lecture at Disinfo Con 2000 about a similar perspective. He says that he was abducted by aliens in Katmandu in 1994, and interjects with some laughter that he had purposely set out to Katmandu to have the experience. Morrison goes on to say that he was contacted by fifth dimensional beings who explained to him that the physical universe is only in a larval stage of growth, that there are no adult version of the creatures we are evolving into, not here within physical reality. They told Morrison that we were created by one of the evolved creatures taking a portion of itself and inserting it into a space-time construct in order for it to grow and learn to become as sophisticated as the adults.

Various schools of philosophical thought seem to agree on the idea that we are at the turning point of a larger paradigm shift. As far as what all this shift will bring remains to be seen. Yet the indications apparent currently seem to point to growing connection with each other via information networks such as the internet, as well as mental arenas we began to discover with meditation and the like over the last few thousands of years. It seems that we will notice a definition of the concept of identity. We will see walls and personal barriers come down as we reach to embrace our evolving magickal and spiritual selves and new freedoms and challenges.
