Anniversary Gifts

The term ‘anniversary, means, generally, a day that commemorates and/or celebrates a past event that happened on that same day of the year. Anniversaries can be birthdays or wedding anniversaries, or be celebrations of events that happened that day te years before, marking some initial event or celebration.

Interestingly, there are many name for anniversaries that mark more than one year passing since the original event. For example, triennial means an anniversary that marks threes years wince the initial event, and terquasquicentennial marks exactly 175 years after an initial event that is being celebrated.

Many wedding anniversaries have special names as well. For the most part, the longer the period of time the wedding anniversary is marking, the more durable and/or precious the material associated with it. Paper is the 1st year anniversary gift material.

Then in the second wedding anniversary through the seventh, it goes cotton, leather, linen, wood, iron and wool. The anniversary materials do not become markedly dear until ivory, year fourteen, crystal, year 15, and the 55th wedding anniversary, which is known as the emerald anniversary.

Though some people like to honor this list of traditional wedding anniversary gifts and materials, many people have decided to ignore it and seek gifts that the individuals or couple would most like to have instead. Usually wedding anniversary gifts given by people outside of the couple will be small things like a bottle of wine or tickets to a show.

Couples themselves are usually the ones that give the traditional wedding anniversary gifts. More recently, the people that give each other wedding anniversary gifts have been split quite equally, as to how many like to give wedding anniversary gifts themed according to the traditional wedding anniversary chart, and those that would rather give more practical or expressly desired gifts.

Popular wedding anniversary gifts are vacation packages. This can be a great way to relive your honeymoon, or perhaps take the honeymoon that you haven’t been on yet. There’s nothing like surprising your spouse with a complete vacation plan of romantic excursions and fireplace cuddling. If you plan far enough in advance you should be able to save tons on airline tickets as well as hotel reservations.

If you work on your anniversary, consider trying something a little different and asking for your anniversary off at work next year. Take the day to enjoy your spouse and spend time enjoying each other’s company. Decide on what each of your would like to do and incorporate some of what you’d each like most to do to commemorate your wedding anniversary.

This could mean a simple night at home with a good movie and a romantic dinner, or it could mean something more involved like visiting a memorable restaurant or old dating spot. You can even surprise your spouse with a trip to some old location you two visited while dating. This can be a wonderful way to stir up fond memories and rekindle bonding and romance.
