Buy Cheap! Finding Great Deals By Shopping In Person

There is no question that online shopping provides great selection and choice as well as good pricing but local merchants are quick to price match or compete against online sites if it means getting your business. So why not buy cheap? Find great deals by shopping in person at your local stores.

Let’s face it some items are rather difficult to buy online. Shipping that A 50” television can be costly; shipping a rare art glass vase can be risky; or that 5 foot painting can be both risky and costly. Some things just create a lot less stress if you buy them locally and then bring them home without having to worry about save shipping.

Great but how do you get the best deal if you are dealing with local merchants. Well you can start by doing your research online. Find out all the information you can about the product. Learn which manufacturers provide superior products and warranties, and then do some price shopping online.

Now it’s time to hop in your car and start visiting the stores in your area. You already have a pretty good idea which make and model you are looking for so it’s time to start doing some local price comparison and comparing similar products.

Online you might have decided that the big Sony TV was what you wanted but then after actually seeing it you decided you liked the look of the Toshiba much better. That’s the advantage of physically seeing a product before you buy it. For some items it matters not. After all an iPod is an iPod you don’t really need to see it up close to decide if it’s the right one for you. But many purchases lend themselves nicely to the “see, feel, touch,” scenario.

Once you’ve done your local price checking compare it to what you found online. Chances are you aren’t going to get a local merchant to price match a price you found online that’s 5000 miles away but you might be able to convince them to price match an item you found that is within driving distance. It depends how hungry they are for the sale.

Most merchants will price match other local merchants prices for sure. If you prefer to shop at a different store other than the one with the lowest price be sure you have a written quote or a copy of the ad and then show it to the competitor and see if they will price match.

Remember that many of the larger stores have web sites so you may not have to run all over town. Just pull up their sites and see what prices they are offering the item for. It can save you a fair bit of leg work, time, and gas.

That said never forget about the little guy. Small business often offer better customer service than box stores and they are usually more than willing to compete if you bring in a competitors price. They also often offer perks like in house repair or in store repair, that some of the bigger stores may not offer. After all they want to remain as competitive as possible to stay in business.

Finding deals in person can be a lot of fun especially for the person who loves to shop. It’s rather like the thrill of the hunt. Whether you are in the market for electronics, fashion items, jewelry, a new wardrobe, or a vacation why not find great deals by shopping in person? Buy Cheap!
