Come Stay In Michigan And Explore The Attractions

Michigan is derived from the Indian word Michsawgyegan which means Lake Country. You can see how it earned its name with Lake Superior on the north and Lake Huron on the east, and Lake Erie on south. There are 83 counties in Michigan and thousands of things to see and do. Why not come stay in Michigan and explore the attractions it has to offer.

Detroit is a wonderful old city known for its role in the automobile industry but there’s a lot more to Detroit and it has plenty to see and do. Start by stopping by Motown Historical Museum the original Berry Gordy home where he recorded his hits. It’s a walk through time from the beginnings of Motown to more recent times.

Then head on over to the Detroit Institute of Arts for one of the best art collections in the US. You’ll see a little bit of everything from African masks, to mummies, to Monet, to modern works. Don’t miss it!

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will walk you through the life and culture of early African Americans. While the Detroit Historic Museum will take you through a walk in time in the auto industry. You’ll even get to see a Cadillac get assembled.

Then if you feel a little lucky why not head over to the MGM Grand Detroit Casino and try your luck at the poker table or at the slots. Grab a bite to eat while you enjoy the sights and sounds.

Then it’s off to Ann Harbor where you should be sure to stop by Nichols Arboretum for a walk or hike through this natural reserve. Then drop by the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum where you get to interact with technology and science. An interesting visit for all ages.

If you love folk and ethnic music stop by The Ark which is a nonprofit organization that operates a nightclub dedicated to preserving ethnic routes. Relax over a drink or grab a bite to eat and enjoy the music!

There are also some excellent museums in Ann Harbor including the Exhibit Museum of Natural History at the University of Michigan, Michigan Museum of Art, and the Gerald R. Ford Library. Spend some time exploring there’s plenty more to see and do.

Now it’s off to Grand Rapids where you’ll find the Fredrick Meijer Gardens a stunning botanical garden complete with modern sculpture. Here you’ll experience a wide range of gardens from Victorian to desert plants.

The Gerald R. Ford Museum reflects the life of the 38th American President, Gerald Ford. Here’ you’ll take an interactive trip back to the 1970s. Then drop by the Van Andel Museum where you can take a trip back in time to the beginning of manufacturing in Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids Brewing Co is definitely worth seeing. You can try the beer that’s made right at the sight, and enjoy some great food all in atmosphere that dates back to 1893. Be sure to check out the Hair of the Frog Brewery is full of atmosphere offering homemade wines, beer, and great food. Weekends even have live music. Check it out.

Then it’s off to Traverse City. If you like golf then be sure to visit the Elmbrook Golf Course a 18 hole golf course for players of all skill levels. Bay Meadows Golf Course is also worth a stop with a course geared towards seniors, juniors, women, and families.

If the kids are looking for something to do take them to the Clinch Park Zoo or the Great Lakes Children’s Museum where they can have hands on learning. Both are a blast for the kids!

As you enter Lansing you’ll spot Potter Park Zoo home to over 100 species of animals including some animals like the Siberian Tigers, Red Pandas, and Black Rhinos that are on the endangered species list.

Be sure to visit the Turner Dodge House and Heritage Center a wonderful old mansion that has been turned into a museum. Then stop by the Michigan Historical Museum which will take you through a walk in time to the earliest times in Michigan.

Ontonagon is home to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park with over 60,000 acres of pristine forests, lakes, rivers, and of course home to plenty of local wildlife. Hike, camp, picnic, stay a day or a week but come see!

Porcupine Mountains Ski Area features eleven miles of slope to ski that cover over 100 acres, located on the shores of Lake Superior. In the summer there’s also a terrific trails system to explore or use it to cross country ski in the winter.

Lake Superior Trail and Beaver Creek Trail both offer some excellent hiking opportunities or just take a short walk along one of the easier trails. There’s so much to see and do from the pristine landscape to the local wildlife.

Since Mackinac Island doesn’t allow vehicles you’ll want to take a carriage tour to explore this pristine island. Be sure to stop by Fort Mackinac too where you’ll see a re-enactment of the 1783 Indian capture and massacre. Then stop by Mackinac Island Butterfly Conservatory home to thousands of free flying butterflies who make their home in the lush gardens.

Before you head back be sure to stop in at the Mackinac Magic Theatre for an island experience. It’s a 90 minute show for all ages and you’ll see a variety of performances from women floating on air to comedy. Mackinac Island.

Deerborne is home to Fair Lane a national historic landmark because it was were Henry Ford’s family home or should we say retreat was located. Complete with its own power plant and 12 car garage. You’ve got to see it!

The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village will help you trace the history of the auto industry, as well as a collection form the Henry Ford estate and some Abraham Lincoln memorabilia. There’s also the Automotive Hall of Fame which will take down memory lane for the automotive industry.

We’ve only touched on the places to visit in Michigan. There’s just so much to see and do we couldn’t possibly cover it in one article.
