The Vietnam War began as a civil war; however, it soon turned into much more. The United States later joined in the war and showed support for South Vietnam. The Vietnam War, like any other war, had casualties. All around the world there are a number of memorials devoted to the Vietnam War and the soldiers who lost their lives while fighting it.
The Wall is a memorial that honors the veterans who fought in the Vietnam War. The Wall is located in Washington, D.C. and is also known as the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Wall is open to the general public. It is a large wall that contains important information and pictures surrounding the war.
The Moving Wall Memorial is similar to the above mentioned wall located in Washington; however, this wall actually moves. The Moving Wall is transported all around the country to different cities. Americans who visit the wall are able to read the names of over fifty thousand veterans who lost their lives while fighting in the Vietnam War.
There is another moving memorial that is dedicated to the soldiers who became prisoners of war (POWs) or those who were declared missing in action (MIA). The memorial is a 1955 racing car that travels the country. It gives individuals an interesting way to learn about the Vietnam War and to pay respect to those who never returned home.
In the state of Illinois is a Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This memorial pays respect to all of the soldiers that lost their lives while fighting the war; however, it offers an additional focus on those originally from the state of Illinois. With beautiful scenery and monument structures the Illinois Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a great place for American citizens and Illinois residents to learn about the war and honor those who lost their lives.
The Lehigh - Northampton Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located in Pennsylvania. It has a number of memorial displays including a Vietnam Obelisk and a memorial wall. The memorial wall has the names of local soldiers from the Leigh and Northampton counties of Pennsylvania. The names inscribed on the wall are causalities of war.
The Long Beach Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located in California. The highlight of the memorial is an Army helicopter. The helicopter is known as Huey. It was a helicopter that was used in combat during the Vietnam War. There is also a miniature memorial wall containing the names of local soldiers who did not return from war.
In addition to the above mentioned Vietnam War Memorials there are more scattered all around the country and world. Many families regularly take trips to a memorial site to pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives fighting on behalf of the United States. All of these memorials are either free to visit or they just request a small donation. Everyone is encouraged to visit one memorial at least once in their life to experience what was earned and lost in the Vietnam War.
