If you are not familiar with what a gift basket is it is basically a way to give a small collection of gifts to someone and have all of those gifts all bundled in a beautiful useable container of some sort. Most of the time, this container is a lovely wicker basket. The entire gift is then wrapped in tinted cellophane and tied with a bow.

This form of gift giving has been around for decades, but it has been rather recently, in the past 10 to 20 years, that the gift basket industry has grown from small, individual cottage businesses to the huge enterprise that it is today. With more and more people working two jobs or spending what amounts to more than 60 hours per week at work, many service industry businesses have popped up to help working people accomplish many of their personal duties. Today more working people hire outside assistance to help them complete things such as many household and landscaping chores. This phenomena also includes businesses that help people who are very busy by providing a huge variety of gifts that are all attractively arranged and sent directly to the recipients home or place of business.

The gift basket industry provides that service and accomplishes it very well. Most of these types of small companies take almost all of their orders either by phone or from their websites. Even though they are small, most of them offer an amazingly large variety of different products that are packaged superbly to look very professional and yet they still give the impression of being a very personal gift.

Other companies are pros at finding those hard to find products or nostalgic candies from our youth. And still other enterprises love to put together themed gift baskets. This allows them to create a gift basket geared toward a specific event or category. For instance, one company online offers a chocolate coffee lovers gift basket that is filled with different types of chocolate flavored coffees, mocha chocolate cookies and cakes and even chocolate spoons to stir your coffee with. All that being said, there is nothing that says you cant buy your own treats and put together your own gift baskets. In fact, you may really enjoy doing something like this around Christmastime where you create an assembly line sort of situation in order to build a chocolate gift basket for everyone on your gift list. This could even become a yearly tradition, which in that case you would learn to shop in bulk and always be on the lookout for sales and bargains at craft and home stores for deals on baskets and other containers to put your gifts in.

Creating your own chocolate gift baskets allow you to personalize it even more by adding other items to the basket like fresh apples, oranges or pears that go so well with chocolate. You can even make your own fudge or brownies to include with the gift. These special touches are what will make your gift really stand out. You can be assured that everyone will love the baskets and will appreciate all of your time, effort and thoughtfulness that went into it.

Even though chocolate may not be loved by every individual under the sun, it is pretty darn close to being a universally loved food. It gets accolades for how versatile it is and for how good it makes us feel. It has to be said that there may not be a better choice for edible gift giving than our dear friend, chocolate.
