There are many types of vacations one might take and just as many ways to get there. In our modern world there seem to be a few favorites that are used the most. Find out the five most popular transportation modes for vacation travel.
Airplanes provide a quick, easy mode of transportation. Airplanes allow us the luxury of flying half way around the world to enjoy a vacation at a warm sunny resort in Cancun or skiing in the Swiss Alps. With the use of the plane no destination is off limits.
Of course that comes at a price and these days with increased fuel costs some flights can be quite expensive. Never the less commercial airlines offers us opportunities that no other mode of transportation can. Whether you need to get across the state in a hurry or to the other side of the globe an airline can get you there.
Vehicle travel is still the number one method of travel within the country. It might be slower but it’s a lot more affordable especially for a family. And there are so many great things to see throughout the country. Half the fun of a road vacation is the places you get to see and explore. There’s nothing quite like it.
With modern vehicles getting much better gas mileage you can go quite the distance on a budget. And new safety features such as ABS and air bags make parents more comfortable to travel distance with their families.
The bus is a mode of transportation that’s often forgotten about, yet bus lines like Greyhound provide an affordable service that can take you right across North America. It’s only draw back is it isn’t fast but then neither is car travel. And what’s better than leaving the driving to someone else.
Bus lines follow stringent safety testing on the buses and the drivers have plenty of experience and may be required to hold special licenses. The drivers are professionals so you can feel confident that you will have a safe and enjoyable trip.
The bus lines are used a lot by single individuals and students. They might not be cost effective for a family of 5 but they sure are for a single person or a couple. It would be difficult to do the same trip in your car for the same amount of money and then you’d have to drive.
The train is also an excellent way to see the country. Although there are not nearly the number of travel options as there once was there are still some excellent travel opportunities available. Whether you want to travel from city to city or half way around the country a train trip is definitely worth considering.
Prices for train tickets vary depending on the line, and the trip you are taking. You can also pay to have a sleeper car if you are on an extended trip. As well long distance train trips offer a dining car where you can enjoy a great meal or two. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offer an excellent selection!
RV travel is another very popular method although it has it’s own following and isn’t a mode that everybody enjoys. RVers will tell you what a terrific method of travel this is allowing you the freedom to visit where you want; never worry about places to stay, and you can change your mind on a whim.
You can either stay at a full service park or you can boondock. Boondocking means you stay somewhere quite literally in the boonies. No services, no hookups, but lots of peace and quiet. And many may choose to spend the night in a parking lot. Wherever you decide to stay your RV gives you all the luxuries of home! These are truly self sufficient units and that’s why they are so popular for vacations and exploration. The perfect way to travel!
Whichever mode of transportation you choose to travel is entirely up to you. All have lots to offer and of course each has it’s own disadvantages. What’s most important is that you take the opportunity to travel and explore whenever you get the chance!
