How To Travel The World On A Budget

When we hear the world travel we often see dollar signs. Don’t we all dream about taking that wonderful trip to Spain or exploring Mexico but then with a sigh we resign ourselves to the fact we simply can’t afford it. Good news! You can afford it! You just need to learn how to travel the world on a budget.

Now first of all traveling the world may not be for everyone! If you can’t bare the idea of not having a cozy hotel room all to yourself and you don’t believe you could make it through the day without fine dining and you aren’t really an explorer then you may be better suited to those one or two trips you can afford in your lifetime.

But if you are adventurous, an explorer by nature, love to learn about the culture of a country and get out of the tourist areas you can travel cheap. If you don’t mind staying in hostiles, living out of a backpack, and meeting new people then budget travel is definitely for you!

There are some amazingly beautiful places to visit around the world and all of them aren’t centered in the middle of a tourist city or town. Some of the most exciting trips are found in the community with the locals or exploring the rugged terrain. Mother nature has more to offer than any resort. In fact it’s pretty hard to compete with nature!

Start by deciding how long you want to travel for and what your budget is. Once you know how much to spend you’ll be able to better figure out where you can go, stay, and visit. A budget of $2500 and two weeks can get you a lot of everything but a budget of $4000 and 6 months means you are going to need to be more resourceful and it can be done!

One very easy way to save money is to travel off season. Hotels and airfares can be as much as 60% less during off season. If you choose your off season well you can still get great weather but less other tourists to share it with.

If you are willing and able to backpack you can have a cheap vacation any time of the year. Your biggest expense will be your airfare and if you are willing to go standby or wait for a seat sale this can save you a great deal. Also searching for flights online can save you a bundle! Then all you’ll need is your tent, camping gear, and the appropriate clothing and gear and you’ll be set.

You can cover a great deal of ground just traveling on foot. But of course you can also use trains and buses to get from one location to the next which are both very affordable. If you want to go really cheap you might want to hitchhike.

If you are a student you can always spend your evenings at a youth hostel where you can meet other adventurous types that are exploring the world.

This type of travel is unforgettable. No false pretenses as you visit the cozy tourist area. What you get is real life, real people, and real scenery. You’ll see how the country functions, what the local people do, what’s important to the locals, and you’ll get a much better understanding of their culture. Many cultures welcome westerners into their homes.

And if you are really energetic you might stick around a village and help them construct a new church or school. Or perhaps you can tutor some children for a few nights stay. The barter system is still very strong in many parts of the world.

Your travel opportunities are limited only by your imagination. So the next time someone says “you can’t afford to travel the world.” You can show them how wrong they are by sharing your adventures and telling them where you are planning your next adventure.

We only live once and too many of us live a very sheltered life with little opportunity to explore the rest of the world. Why not travel the world on a budget and have a lifetime of memories to share with friends and family?
