The Top 6 Adventure Movie Picks

With so many movies to choose from it’s quite remarkable that the adventure genre remains one of the most popular genres of all. And there’s a reason! There have been some great adventure movies hit over the years so we thought it be fun to name the top 6 all time adventure movie picks.

Die Hard – actually a series of Die Hard movies released. John McClane [Bruce Willis] is a New York police detective who’s constantly putting his but on the line for the cause. The movies are action packed and will keep you on the edge of your seat. In the first Die Hard McClane is taking a Christmas Vacation in Los Angeles and lands up being the only guy who can stop a heist that is occurring in one of the downtown office buildings. The second die hard was rather a take off of the first but instead occurred in an airport and the third one McClane is saving New York from someone who want to blow everything up. One thing for sure the Die Hard movies set a new standard of expectations for adventure movies. All 3 of this serious are action packed from start to finish!

Serenity – Is based off the TV hit Firefly but it has been done in such a way that if you’ve never heard of Firefly you can still enjoy this movie. Of course if you are already familiar with the characters it’s that much better. The film is centered around a hardened veteran named Captain Malcom Reynolds who is on the losing side of the galactic civil war. He leads a small crew who are the closest thing to family although they spend a considerable time squabbling they are a loyal bunch.

When the Matrix was released it blew people away because of the amazing special effects. Add the plot of the story where a hacker named Neo [Keanu Reeves] learns who could be the one to wage war against the machines that have taken over the world. In this world the humans no longer run the planet but rather are an energy source for the machines. The second Matrix movie was as phenomenal as the first and both have upped the anti for what movie goes expect from action adventure movies.

The Island – The debate over the moral implications of cloning humans is addressed. Lincoln Six-Echo is a missing young man who is having bad dreams and who increasingly questions the world around him. In fact everyone wear a white jumpsuit because it’s the required uniform in the sanitary, sterile, carefully controlled facility in which they live.

The Lord of the Rings is one of the all time best movies ever! Well at least in my opinion. This move was action packed from start to finish and full over adventure that covered a 3 year span and over 10 hours of movies. That’s a long time to keep a viewer engaged! The J.R.R. Tolkien characters are portrayed excellently by Peter Jackson. The story line is tight and the story evolves through the characters and their quests. It’s an epic film that everyone should see, more than once!

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Indiana Jones [Harrison Ford] an archeologist isn’t your ordinary archeologist and seems to never do anything by the book. He’s a rough cut man who appears to thrive on danger but he’s not about to back down from anyone or anything. All 3 movies in the series maintain great action and adventure. The story is explosive and gripping and it’s another film that moved the bar for adventure movie requirements up a few notches. There’s rumor that a 4th sequel may be coming.

Of course there are plenty of other great adventure movies that have been made. These are just 6 that deserve special mention for not only the movie itself but for their ability to raise the audiences expectations creating pressure for the movie industry to produce even better adventure movies. One can only imagine what an adventure movie will look like 10 years from now.
