There are extended car warranty phishing scams on the internet that many people have been taken advantage of with. I'm sure that by now, most people know about the telemarketing efforts that a lot of lower end extended warranty companies are using to try to find customers. Those telemarketing calls are not a phishing scam, however they are are an example of very poor marketing.
