So you want you are looking for a fast food meal. What do you choose, hamburgers, fries, tacos, and chicken, to name just a few choices. Then you need to decide where you will go. Will that be McDonalds, Wendy’s, and Subway? Where do you start.
Fast food can be found in the malls, and on the corners on nearly every street. With the number of fast food joints it’s no wonder that the waist lines on most people is expanding. Our kids get fast foods at their school, they eat it at the malls and they go out to eat it with their friends.
Our fast paced society has produced the fastest growing waist lines in the modern world. At no time in the history has the population developed such a need for fast food as it has in the last 30 years. Our busy lives demand quick solutions to eating and fast food has been happy to fill that demand.
To make thing worse the corporations that run these fast food outlets have decide to super size everything and all it costs us is a few more pennies. Just what the general population needs. Bigger meals translate to bigger waist sizes.
Have you ever seen the results of fast foods? Sure you have. All you have to do is turn on your television and every day you’ll hear another health risk tied to fast food and obesity. In fact the concerns are now so great many medical groups are lobbying to ban fast food and junk food from our schools.
Overweight people tend to suffer with more chronic conditions and more serious conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. The insurance industry estimates the cost of treating overweight persons will be in the billion of dollars.
The body is not designed to handle this added pressure of the extra weight we carry. The more weight we put on the less we do. The less we do the more fast food we eat. The more fast food we eat the more weight we put on. It has become a self fulfilling circle. One most people have trouble escaping.
With all the tantalizing ads on television and on the billboards it is no wonder that we can’t resist and land up putting on the pounds. Now the Internet is also flashing ads on screen to get you to go and get more fast food. We are being bombarded by all the ads for all these delicious fast foods and it’s pretty difficult to resist the message. How often has your mouth started to water after seeing a delicious burger flash across the screen?
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As more people become aware of the health risks associated with too much fast food, they begin to eat less of it. This has forced many of the companies to change their menus and introduce new foods with fewer calories to draw their customers back.
They are also working to change their public image. Even with the low calorie offerings you need to pay attention because the menus are still loaded with high calorie foods and it’s very easy to think you’re doing alright because you had that salad but forgetting you finished it off with a nice big burger.
Did you know there are more than 400,000 fast food restaurants in the U S and Canada? That’s an amazing number and that’s just counting the major players. These fast food outlets are convenient predictable and fast. With a busy life fast foods have become the norm for many people.
The American Heart Association recommends eating no more than 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day. A product high in total fat or saturated fat may be a bigger contributor to high blood cholesterol levels. Foods high in fat will cause the formation of cholesterol in the body, even if the food has no cholesterol.
With high calories, sodium, fat, and cholesterol being big players in most fast food it is no wonder that we are gaining the weight. This does not mean fast food is bad or that we need to eliminate it. It simply means we must learn there to eat it in moderation and learn to make healthy eating choices to stay healthy.
