Reading Reviews Can Help You Choose The Right Book

Every year thousands of great books hit the market and some not so great. Choosing which books to read can be like playing darts with a blind fold. Hit and miss. And with the cost of books these days’ nothings more disappointing then buying the wrong book. Reading book reviews can help you choose the right book and avoid that disappointment.

Just as there are movie critics, magazine reviews, television show reviews, there are also book reviews. These book reviews can be found in various places. Online, in magazine publications, at the library, on television, and in your local newspaper.

Reviewers are usually a mix of librarians, academics, teachers, and recent grads. With non fiction material reviewers are often chosen because of their knowledge and or experience in a specific subject or field.

Young grads actually make up a very small percentage of reviewers because they are generally too busy with more ambitious activities. Retired teachers make up a larger percentage of the reviewers because they have the time to dedicate to producing anywhere from 12 to 24 reviews a month.

Occasionally you may even be given the chance to write your own book review. When you purchase a book from sites like Amazon they allow you to publish reviews. Taking the time to write a review can be very helpful to someone else so do consider doing so. Give others as much information as you can without giving away the actual story.

There are also some well known book review sites online. Sites such as “The New York Times Book Review,” “Barnes & Noble Book Reviews,” and “Bookspot” to name just a few off a wealth of information pertaining to almost any book published including fiction and non fiction. Check several of them and see what the overall consensus is on the book or books you are interested in.

Now just like with the movies, the reviewer’s opinion may not always be the way you feel about a particular book but reading several reviews will give you a good idea of what the book has to offer. However after a while you’ll get to recognize certain reviewers and you’ll also get to recognize reviewers that rate like you would. These are good reviewers to use because they match your reading style and interests.

So what should you look for in a review? Well first of all don’t take any book review as gospel. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and yours may not agree with the reviewer.

The book review should have the book title, author, and ISBN to make it easier for you to find the book. Some reviews will actually tell you where you can purchase a book.

The review should offer you detailed information about the story line or books content for non fiction. It should give an opinion on how well the book is put together and whether it keeps the reader glued to it or whether the plot is thin or difficult to follow. It should also give the book an overall rating and tell you who would enjoy this book.

Reviews are a great way to get a feel for a certain book and they can help you decide which books you might want to buy and which you may want to pass on. Reviews are a valuable tool that you should take advantage of.
